We believe to balance your skin we suggest a beauty detox from your existing beauty regime to “reset” the skin. Due to desensitization from skin product over use, makeup product overuse and not using natural ingredients, the skin accepts what is applied and adapts. This ongoing stress to the skin sacrifices its ability to work at an optimum level leading to a plethora of skin conditions; Dryness, dehydration, oiliness, rosacea, acne, pigmentation issues and many more.
Therefore we have developed a Beauty ReLeaf “Skintox” challenge to help you detox all the bad ingredients and start with a clean fresh slate.
Beauty ReLeaf “Skintox Two Week Challenge”; a journey to a clearer, brighter, smoother, more youthful skin. During this “Skintox” you will stop the use of all your skincare products and regular makeup products.
During this two week “Skintox” Challenge we suggest using a face skin exfoliator to help improve circulation and stimulate your lymphatic system to release toxins. Exfoliating also reduces puffiness, improves muscle tone, sloughs off dull, dead skin cells, and encourages skin cell renewal. Choose an exfoliator for sensitive skin. Avoid all natural scrubs as they contain tiny sharp particles that can cause micro tears, and irritate and damage the skin. Exfoliating should be done every other day during this period.
During this two week program, we suggest using a detoxifying clay mask 1-2 times per week. Apply the mask and allow it to dry for about 15 minutes before washing it off with a warm washcloth.
After the two weeks Skin-Tox Challenge you will begin an introductory phase where you will add ONE of your daily products to your daily regime removed during the Skin-Tox period. It is important to add only one product back to your regime weekly to notice any inflammatory skin responses to the product that was avoided. Please look for reactions such as skin rashes, redness, dry patches or itchy skin. These types of reactions would indicate an inflammatory response to the product reintroduced. Skin reactions may occur within 12-24 hours after being reintroduced. If you do experience any inflammatory responses to your product and choose to continue to use the product, your skin in time will most likely become desensitized to it once again and reactions will diminish. It is with this new knowledge you can make a decision to continue to use or not.
For some who have used the same products daily for years, it is possible the two-week Skin-Tox challenge may not be long enough to “detox” the skin. We would suggest for these individuals to do the Skin-Tox Challenge for a minimum of one month.
The phrase “You are what you eat” could not be truer. During the two weeks “Skintox” Challenge we suggest making these dietary changes to also help detox the skin from the inside.
Cut back on refined sugar
Consuming refined sugar causes a reaction called glycation, which occurs when the sugar in your bloodstream attaches to protein or lipid molecules and forms harmful molecules called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). The more sugar you consume, the more of these AGEs you develop. If you accumulate a lot of AGEs in your system, they begin to break down and damage surrounding proteins such as collagen and elastin that help you looking young and more vibrant.
Additionally avoid products that contain high fructose corn syrup, which is found in sodas, flavored drinks, packaged bread, crackers, and other snacks.
Drink plenty of water.
Drinking water throughout the day is vital even if you’re not on a Beauty ReLeaf “Skintox” challenge. Drinking a significant amount of water is vital to flushing toxins from your skin and body. Drinking water keeps your body and your skin hydrated, keeps your complexion clear, and helps prevent wrinkles. It also helps eliminate toxins in the digestive system and speeds up digestive processes to toxins are eliminated from the body at an expedited pace. Aim to drink 8 - 10 eight-ounce glasses of water each day.
Choose meat and dairy products wisely.
Having a protein-rich diet is important to detoxification, but it is also essential that you choose products that do not use hormones. Hormones are often used to treat the animals and/or their byproducts, and these hormones can cause acne and other skin problems. Smart protein choices for detoxing your skin include:
Opt for healthier fats.
For a “Skintox” diet it is important to ingest healthy fats, which help the body absorb essential vitamins and restore or maintain an ideal hormone balance. Unhealthy fats, like saturated and trans fats, should be avoided. Instead, try eating some of the following:
Get a good night’s rest
A good eight hours of sleep is recommended by experts to give the body ideal time to rest, repair and recover. It really is important for overall health and wellbeing. During the two weeks “Skintox” we suggest committing to getting the eight hours of sleep or as close to it as possible to allow your skin to recover and repair.
There really is truth in the phrase “Get your Beauty Sleep”
It is a fact you will have less beauty without the proper amount of sleep. While you're sleeping, the body's hydration rebalances. Skin is able to recover vital moisture, while excess water in general in the body is processed for removal. Not getting enough sleep results in poor water balance, leading to puffiness under your eyes and under-eye circles, as well as dryness and more visible wrinkles. Not enough sleep accelerates the aging process. During deep sleep, the rise in growth hormones allows damaged cells to become repaired. Without the deeper phases of sleep, this won't occur, allowing daily small breakdowns to accumulate instead of being reversed overnight. This results in more noticeable signs of aging. Not enough sleep worsens existing skin conditions. The increased inflammatory response shows up as increased acne breakouts and increased skin sensitivity. Not enough sleep detracts from your skin's natural beauty. Increased inflammatory cells in the body lead to an increase in the breakdown of collagen and hyaluronic acid, the molecules that give the skin its glow, bounce, and translucency.
Treating the skin as a whole from treating it topically with nutritional and natural products and systemically with as much organic and whole foods as possible will result in healthier, more revitalized, youthful glowing skin.
We realize that making dramatic changes all at once may not be possible. However, just making small changes will make significant changes in the overall health and look of the skin.
